When was the last time you laid your hands on a new innovation, tried it out, and were truly amazed? Maybe it’s your first time driving a Tesla, hearing Dolby Atmos, or gaming in VR. In other words, Icon has democratized aviation and made an airplane that practically anyone can fly - and that’s something we can all get excited about. It’s easier to learn, safer to fly, and doesn’t require half a year of flight school before you can legally fly one. That’s what’s so remarkable about the A5. Technically you have to log about 20 hours of flight time in order to get certified to pilot this bird by yourself - but it’s worth noting that that’s half as long as what’s required for most other single engine aircraft. So, does this mean that anybody can hop in the cockpit of one of these suckers and start flying right away? Yeah. In fact, our copilot had me intentionally put the plane into a stall during the demo, and amazingly, I could still maneuver it like nothing was wrong. Thanks to a slew of smart design elements - things like wing cuffs and vortex generators - the A5 is completely spin-resistant, which means that it won’t spiral out of control if you go into a stall. The A5 has also been painstakingly engineered to be stable and predictable in the air. As long as you keep your Angle of Attack in the “green zone” of the indicator, complicated things like takeoff and landing are drastically easier to pull off - even when you’re landing on water. Honestly it looks more like the dashboard of a car.Īrguably the biggest innovation is this thing called the Angle of Attack indicator - a little gauge that combines multiple flight indicators into a single, simplified display. You’re not overwhelmed by an army of buttons, knobs, and confusing instrumentation. When you step inside, the first thing you notice is that the interior doesn’t look like what airplane cockpits normally look like. There are two main things that make it such a cakewalk: a ridiculously well-engineered hull/wing design, and a simplified flight interface that makes the cockpit far less cluttered and confusing. The xFold SPY has 12 motors on very short arms to keep its footprint down. The drone is capable of flying for up to 25 minutes and carrying 15 pounds. It is equipped with a 600mW video downlink, allowing those on the ground to get a live feed from the air. ![]() The SPY also comes in three other variants with fewer motors. The xFold Dragon is the group’s big boy with its focus set on industrial and military uses. The RangePro X8, launched last year, gained immediate traction with customers looking for advanced functionality in drones made in the U.S. ![]() The drone is capable of flying with a 1,000-pound payload for up to eight hours. Designed for use by federal agencies and enterprise. 2.4GHz The excellent frequency & bandwidth. The hybrid version can fly for 1.5 hours on its batteries and then another eight hours. Using Spread Spectrum Technology for Further remote distance Best anti-interference ability, Least power consumption. The xFold Cinema is designed for movie-making and capturing the world with large cinema-style cameras. This version has eight motors and can be controlled by two users, one controlling the drone and the other controlling the gimbal and camera. The drone can carry up to 22 pounds and flies for around 35 minutes. The XFold Travel has been designed to make it easier to use the drone on the go and travel with it. It is designed to carry DSLR, mirrorless and FLIR thermal cameras, making it an option for armature cinematographers not wanting to go with a pre-built drone. It has a flight time of up to 26 minutes and can carry up to 15 pounds. It can also be configured with more or fewer motors depending on your needs.
